Welding & UV Radiation
Welders exposed to UV Radiation have become a prominent and dangerous occupational hazard that has to be addressed. UV “Rays” is the number one cause of skin cancer for welders and surrounding workers.Welders and surrounding workers are at a high risk of exposure because, the majority of welding is done between 0-400nm. Anything higher than 400nm is visible light or infrared light and has been proven to not cause skin cancer.
Welder’s Occupational Risks
Welding-related injuries are costly to employers, who face medical expenses, legal fees, workers comp claims and reduced productivity. The good news is that many welding-related injuries are preventable with the proper protection. Like wearing a physical block sunscreen with Zinc Oxide that provides a physical protection against UVC, UVB and UVA Rays up to 400 nanometers which makes a Broad Spectrum Sunscreen. This allows a welder to begin welding immediately with out having to Waite 20 minutes for chemical sunscreens to begin protecting against UVA Rays.
