Hand sanitizer and hand care for the office

One sick week can empty half the office. Shared door handles, keyboards and break rooms move germs fast, and alcohol sanitizer leaves hands dry by Friday. We make alcohol-free hand hygiene that keeps your team on the job and feels good to use all day.

What a work week does to your hands

Germs travel through the office faster than you think

Most office sick days start with a hand on a shared surface. Here’s where it comes from, and what helps.

Problem 01

Shared surfaces

In a University of Arizona study, one contaminated door handle spread to about half the office’s surfaces and hands within 4 hours. Sanitizer where people work breaks the chain.

Flu and RSV season →
Problem 02

Alcohol dries hands out

Alcohol sanitizer evaporates in seconds and strips the skin’s oils, so people stop using it. BZK sanitizer is alcohol-free and conditions the skin, so the habit sticks.

Problem 03

Cold, dry air

Winter’s dry indoor air helps viruses spread and dries hands out. An alcohol-free sanitizer that doesn’t add to the dryness is easy to plan for.

What a work week does to your hands

Five short animated chapters: the work, the exposure, what happens in the skin, why we built the product, and how to use it on the job.

Education, not medical advice. If your skin cracks, bleeds or won’t settle down, talk to a clinician.

CaptionAn ordinary work day: the same door handle, shared keyboards and the break-room coffee pot pass through dozens of hands, and germs (red) ride along.

01 · The work week

Everyone touches everything

Door handles, elevator buttons, shared keyboards, the conference-room remote, the coffee pot. In an office, the same few surfaces pass through every pair of hands on the floor, every day of the week.

One person comes in with a cold on Monday, and by Thursday half the team is sniffling. Hand hygiene where people actually work is the simplest way to break that chain.

CaptionOne contaminated door handle in the middle. Within about four hours, germs from it turned up on roughly half of the office’s surfaces and hands.

02 · How germs travel

One handle, half the office

  • Germs spreading

Germs don’t need a sneeze to get around an office. They ride from a shared surface to a hand, from that hand to the next surface, and from there to the next hand.

In a University of Arizona study, one contaminated door handle spread to about half of an office’s surfaces and hands within four hours. As reported on the R&R Lotion blog, Dirty Money: Contamination in Your Pocket (2022)

That’s why sanitizer at the desk cluster and the break room matters more than one bottle at the front door.

CaptionThe skin’s outer layer is cells (bricks) held together by natural oils (the mortar). Strip the mortar often enough and moisture escapes, irritants work their way in, and the skin reddens and cracks.

03 · What develops

Dry hands by Friday

  • Skin cells
  • Water escaping
  • Irritants

The outermost layer of skin is dead skin cells held together by natural oils and lipids, like bricks and mortar. Alcohol sanitizer evaporates in seconds and strips those oils on the way out.

Do it ten times a day and hands get dry, tight and cracked. Keep going and the barrier breaks down: that’s irritant contact dermatitis, which starts as redness, itching and dryness. And when sanitizer stings, people stop using it, so the habit that keeps the office healthy fades out.

CaptionFour stops, one routine: an E2 hand cleaner at the sink, E3 foam sanitizer at the desk, a streak-free cleaner for desks and screens, and an E4 lotion on break.

04 · Why we built it

Built so people keep using it

An office doesn’t need the harshest sanitizer. It needs one people will actually reach for on day four. So we left the alcohol out and built a short list that goes from the sink to the desk to the break room.
