Clearing right-of-way, climbing ivy-covered trees, cutting brush on a site: poison ivy, oak and sumac are part of the job. I.C. Ivy Block is a poison ivy barrier you put on before exposure. It goes on just like sunscreen to all exposed skin.

What it does Zinc Acetate
Zinc acetate is an OTC skin protectant. It is the only active ingredient on the Drug Facts panel.
Clay
Bentonite
A clay formed from volcanic ash that absorbs oils and moisture.
What it does Bentonite
Bentonite helps a protective lotion hold up on the skin and gives it a smooth, creamy feel. The formula also uses quaternium-90 bentonite, a modified form of the clay.

Aloe Vera
Juice from the aloe leaf, rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
What it does Aloe Vera
Aloe barbadensis leaf juice comes from the inner leaf of the aloe plant. It contains sugars that help skin hold moisture.
Plant water
Witch Hazel
A plant water that helps skin feel refreshed.
What it does Witch Hazel
Witch hazel water is distilled from the bark and leaves of the witch hazel shrub. It is a mild astringent, so skin feels toned rather than greasy.

How it works

Keep the oil off your skin

The rash comes from urushiol, an oil in the sap of poison ivy, oak and sumac. In people who are sensitive to it, urushiol that reaches the skin can cause allergic contact dermatitis. Ivy Block goes on first, so there’s a barrier between the oil and your skin.

AbsorbBentonite clay

Bentonite is an absorbent clay mineral. In Ivy Block, it helps absorb urushiol for added protection.

SealA film former

A film former, along with dimethicone, forms a light layer over the skin and seals the pores.

ProtectZinc acetate

Zinc acetate is the skin protectant active on the Drug Facts panel. The formula is alcohol free.

When do I put it on?

Before exposure. Shake well, then apply generously to dry, exposed skin 15 minutes before you go into the brush. Let it dry.

How long does it last?

Reapply every 4 hours for continued protection, or sooner if needed.

Will it help after I already have a rash?

No. Ivy Block is a pre-contact protectant: it has to be on your skin before you touch the plant. After possible exposure, wash with I.C. Ivy Cleanse. For itch, see I.C. Ivy Relief.

How do I take it off at the end of the day?

After possible exposure, remove it using I.C. Ivy Cleanse: wet the skin, rub the cleanser in for at least 15 seconds, then rinse and pat dry.

What’s in it?

The Drug Facts active is zinc acetate 0.1% (skin protectant). The formula also contains bentonite clay, dimethicone, witch hazel water and aloe vera, and is alcohol free. Children under 2: ask a doctor.

Put a barrier on before you go into the brush

I.C. Ivy Block is a pre-contact poison ivy, oak and sumac protectant for outdoor workers: arborists and tree crews, linemen clearing right-of-way, construction crews clearing a site, telecom and power-gen techs, municipal crews and military units. If poison ivy, oak and sumac are part of the job, this goes on before the job starts, just like sunscreen, to all exposed skin.

The Drug Facts active is zinc acetate 0.1%, a skin protectant. The heavy-duty gel also contains bentonite clay that helps absorb urushiol, the oil in poison ivy, oak and sumac, for added protection, and a film former that seals the pores. It dries quickly, offering immediate protection, with no streaks, no stickiness and no oil-tracking. It is alcohol free, fragrance free, dye free and paraben free. Apply it 15 minutes before exposure and every 4 hours for continued protection, then remove it after possible exposure with I.C. Ivy Cleanse.

Ivy Block was tested with lineman's rubber insulating gloves (ASTM D120), with FR clothing in arc testing (ASTM F2621) and in vertical flame testing (ASTM D6413). It is made in our FDA registered facility in Scottsdale, Arizona, and comes in 2 oz, 4 oz and 8 oz bottles, 16 oz and 32 oz pumps, a gallon pump and 7 mL single-use foils for the truck. Directions for use

Warnings: For external use only. When using this product do not get into eyes. If contact occurs, rinse eyes thoroughly with water. Stop use and ask a doctor if condition worsens, symptoms last more than 7 days or clear up and occur again within a few days. Keep out of reach of children. If swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away.
