Key ingredients

What’s inside, and what it does

The micro scrubbers and cleansers that do the work, plus the glycerin and vitamin E around them. Ivy Cleanse has no active ingredient; here is what each ingredient does.

Full ingredient list →
  • A small heap of fine white wax beads

    Scrubbing particles

    Micro Scrubbers (Synthetic Wax)

Fine wax particles that give the wash its texture.

What it does Micro Scrubbers (Synthetic Wax)

Micro scrubbers are fine particles of synthetic wax. As you wash, they help lift grime and plant oils from the skin, and the rinse carries them away.

  • A mound of thick white lather on a stone surface

    Cleansers

Sodium Laureth Sulfate & Cocamidopropyl Betaine

A high-foaming cleanser paired with a milder coconut-derived one to lift oil and dirt.

What it does Sodium Laureth Sulfate & Cocamidopropyl Betaine

Sodium laureth sulfate removes dirt, grease and oil. Cocamidopropyl betaine, made from coconut oil, makes the lather milder and creamier.

  • A small glass dish of clear, thick glycerin

    Humectant

    Glycerin

A clear humectant that draws moisture into the skin and holds it there.

    What it does Glycerin

Glycerin helps skin feel softer and less dry after washing. It is clear and odorless, and it suits all skin types.

  • A few golden vitamin softgels and a drop of oil

    Vitamin

    Vitamin E

An antioxidant that helps neutralize free radicals, the unstable molecules that stress skin.

    What it does Vitamin E

Vitamin E also helps support the skin's moisture barrier, so skin stays soft after scrubbing.

Also inside Triethanolamine lauryl sulfate and cocamide MEA, which add cleansing power and help build the lather.

How it works

Urushiol is an oil, so wash it like one

Urushiol, the oil in the sap of poison ivy, oak and sumac, doesn’t rinse away well with water alone. Getting it off quickly matters.

LiftSurfactants

Surfactants are the cleaning agents in any wash. They surround oils and let water carry them away, which is how a cleanser removes an oil that water alone can’t.

ScrubSynthetic wax micro scrubbers

Small synthetic wax scrubbers give the wash a gentle scrubbing action as you rub it over the skin.

RinseRinse and repeat

Rub it in for at least 15 seconds, rinse with water and pat dry with a towel. Repeat as needed. The formula has no alcohol and no silicones.

Questions crews ask

FAQ

What does it do?
It’s a skin cleanser that assists in the removal of poisonous plant oils (urushiol) that cause rashes. It’s a cosmetic wash, not a drug. For itch, see I.C. Ivy Relief.
How do I use it?
Wet the area with water. Apply generously. Gently rub it in for at least 15 seconds, then rinse with water and pat dry with a towel. Repeat as needed.
How soon after contact should I wash?
As soon as you can. Keep the 4 ml foils in the truck so you can wash at the job site.
Do I use it with Ivy Block?
Yes. Put I.C. Ivy Block on before exposure. After possible exposure, remove it with Ivy Cleanse.
Does hot water spread poison ivy or make it worse?
Wash with soap and lukewarm water, not hot. Hot water can feel good on an itchy rash, but it doesn’t wash the oil off any better and can irritate the skin. Rub Ivy Cleanse in for at least 15 seconds so the oil comes off instead of spreading around. Hot water and poison ivy.
Can I just use dish soap?
Dish soap and plain soap remove some oil, especially right after contact. Ivy Cleanse is made to help remove urushiol, and the foils let you wash at the job site instead of waiting until you get home.
How long does poison ivy oil stay on tools, gloves and clothes?
NIOSH notes urushiol can stay active on surfaces for up to 5 years until it’s washed off. Wash work clothes separately and wipe tool handles.
Is a poison ivy rash contagious?
The rash isn’t contagious. Only the oil spreads, from skin, clothes or tools that still have it on them.
What sizes come in a crew kit?
2 oz, 4 oz and 8 oz bottles, 16 oz and 32 oz pumps and a gallon pump, plus 4 ml single-use foils in boxes of 100, 200 or 300.
Can I get samples, crew pricing or buy through GSA?
Yes. Request a free sample, ask about crew and distributor pricing, or buy through GSA MAS contract 47QSMS24D0078.

The details

Wash the plant oil off before you head home

I.C. Ivy Cleanse is a gentle skin cleanser for outdoor professionals who work around poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac: tree and grounds crews, linemen walking a right-of-way, site-clearing crews, firefighters and other first responders, telecom and municipal crews. You walked the brush, cut the vines and pulled the plants; this is what you use at the wash station afterward.

It is formulated to help remove poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac urushiol oils right after contact. A blend of synthetic wax micro scrubbers and premium surfactants lifts the oil from the skin and rinses it away, while skin conditioners soften the skin. It is alcohol free, silicone free, soap free and paraben free, and contains no harsh chemical solvents such as mineral spirits, kerosene or Stoddard solvents. Wet the area, apply generously, rub it in for at least 15 seconds, then rinse and pat dry.

Ivy Cleanse is a cosmetic cleanser, not a drug. It pairs with I.C. Ivy Block, the protectant you put on before exposure, and I.C. Ivy Relief for itch. It is made in our FDA registered facility in Scottsdale, Arizona, and comes in 2 oz, 4 oz and 8 oz bottles, 16 oz and 32 oz pumps, a gallon pump and 4 mL single-use foils for the job site.
