If used as directed with other sun protection measures, decreases the risk of skin cancer and early skin aging caused by the sun.

What it does Octinoxate, Benzophenone-3 & Octisalate

These three are UV filters that absorb ultraviolet light. Benzophenone-3 is also called oxybenzone. With zinc oxide, they are the four sunscreen actives on the Drug Facts panel.

How it works

Mineral, physical and hybrid

Zinc oxide and organic filters work together across UVA and UVB. You get full broad-spectrum protection in a lotion that goes on light.

UVANon-nano zinc oxide

Mineral zinc oxide (6.73%) adds broad UVA protection alongside the organic filters. Particles are larger than 100 nanometers.

UVBOrganic UV filters

Octinoxate (5.75%), octisalate (3.83%) and benzophenone-3 (4.50%) absorb UVB (benzophenone-3 also absorbs short-wave UVA) to round out full broad-spectrum SPF 36.

What’s not in itNo avobenzone

Also free of dyes and fragrance, and never tested on animals. It’s a lotion, so there’s no aerosol spray near hot or energized work.

Questions crews ask

FAQ

Is this a mineral sunscreen?
It’s a hybrid. Mineral zinc oxide and organic filters (octinoxate, octisalate and benzophenone-3) work together for broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection. It contains no avobenzone.
Will it damage my rubber insulating gloves or FR clothing?
Lineman’s gloves: glove-tested. Class 2 rubber insulating gloves passed the ASTM D120 proof test after contact with the product. FR clothing: FR-compatible when rubbed in. Tested on FR fabric (ASTM F2621). Rub it fully into your skin and keep it off your FR clothing. Tested on the same formula (formerly labeled SPF 30). How we tested.
How long does it last when I’m sweating?
It’s rated for 80 minutes of water and sweat resistance. AMA Laboratories measured SPF 32.7 after 80 minutes of water immersion (static SPF 36.5). Reapply as the label directs.
Why a lotion and not a spray?
A lotion goes where you put it, with no overspray and no aerosol can on the truck near hot or energized work.
Is sunscreen PPE?
OSHA doesn’t list sunscreen as PPE, but NIOSH and OSHA sun and heat guidance tells outdoor crews to use broad-spectrum SPF 15 or higher on exposed skin. Many companies stock it in the PPE kit for that reason.
Can welders get sunburned, and will sunscreen help?
Yes. A welding arc gives off UV that can burn the neck, ears and lips that a hood doesn’t cover. Sunscreen on exposed skin helps; it doesn’t replace your hood, lens or covered sleeves.
What sizes come in a crew kit?
2 oz, 4 oz, 8 oz, 32 oz, gallon and 50 ml bottles, plus 4 ml single-use foils in boxes of 100, 200 or 300 for first-aid and vehicle kits.
Can I get samples, crew pricing or buy through GSA?
Yes. Request a free sample, ask about crew and distributor pricing, or buy through GSA MAS contract 47QSMS24D0078.

The details

Sun protection built for a full shift outdoors

I.C. Industrial Sunscreen SPF 36 is a full broad-spectrum hybrid sunscreen made for people who work outside all day: linemen up the pole by seven, ironworkers on open steel, arborists in the canopy, surveyors on open ground and welders on a fab-shop floor. It pairs non-nano mineral zinc oxide with organic UV filters, and an advanced shearing process spreads the zinc evenly so the lotion goes on light and rubs in clear, with no white cast on skin or tools.

Work days are long, hot and sweaty, so the formula is rated for 80 minutes of sweat and water resistance and stays where you put it instead of running into your eyes. It is fragrance and dye free, non-greasy and non-tacky, so it will not leave residue on gloves, controls or hand tools. And because it is a lotion, not an aerosol, there is no overspray in the truck or near hot or energized work.

The same formula, when it was labeled SPF 30, was tested to ASTM D120 with rubber insulating gloves and to ASTM F2621 with flame-resistant clothing, and the reports are on file. I.C. Industrial Sunscreen is made in our FDA registered facility in Scottsdale, Arizona, comes in sizes from single-use foils to gallon pumps for the gang box, and is available direct, through distributors and on GSA. Apply 15 minutes before sun exposure and reapply as the label directs.

  1. Carole C. –

I’m fair & was in sun (which I’m normally not) for hours and no redness. But, what’s really great is, although it’s effective like other zinc based products, it’s not heavy so you don’t get that ghostly look. Also, it spreads easily so easy to apply. I was really surprised how effective it is considering how much lighter it is than most zinc sun screen.

  2. Cassie –

The best value for your money, 8 oz for $10. I’ve researched a lot about the best sun protection against both UVA and UVB rays, and zinc oxide is the best. I’ve been using Olay UV Defense which is 6% Zinc Oxide and they cost $12 for 2.5 oz. So I switched to this which is 6.4% zinc oxide. I use it every day on my face, neck, and hands before I go to work. It goes on before my make-up, and does not look whitish at all. I’m very happy with this product and will keep buying it.

  3. Mike D –

The product really is fragrance-free! I have to use sunscreen year ’round and did not want to smell like coconut all year. This sunscreen makes that possible.
This sunscreen is not greasy at all and blends into the skin very quickly.
    Buy with confidence.

  4. kristin –

This sunscreen lotion goes on very easily without leaving white streaks. I use this while at home to put a base layer of sun screen on myself and kids before getting swimsuits on and going to the beach. The pump makes getting the sunscreen out very easy, especially with greasy hands. Once I finish this gallon on sunscreen, I will definitely buy another!

  5. Bassymom –

This is my second large bottle of Industrial Sunscreen that I have purchased. I live on a lake and my children and grandchildren come swimming and fishing several times a week – always forgetting to bring sunscreen – hence the two large bottles I have purchased! The zinc oxide in this formula works really well blocking all the burning factors of the sun and does not wash off easily, so remains effective for at least as long as the 80 min. it advertises! It also does not contain all the manmade ingredients which historically have caused allergic reactions (rashes and itching) on the grandkids sensitive skin. i would recommend this sunscreen to anyone who spends a lot of time in the sun

  6. GrampaGary –

I started using this sunscreen at work after meeting the company owners at a convention and receiving some free samples. As a construction safety professional, I am concerned about sun exposure of our construction workers here in San Diego. Industrial Strength Sunscreen really lives up to its name! Because it is lotion-based, it rubs in quickly with no greasy or sticky feeling. The active ingredient, zinc oxide, is very effective at reflecting the harmful UV rays and it remains water and sweat-free for over an hour. I always keep a box of the individual packets available at the worksite for my workers and they are using it! I keep an 8 fluid ounce bottle at home and in my car at all times for my personal use. Absolutely the best sunscreen on the market and the only one I will buy or recommend.

  7. Fred –

purchased the guys who work outdoors on a regular basis had access to sun screen – the pump makes it more hygenic for multiple person use.

  8. Joshy Boy –

I am a welder and from time to time I get arc burn from welding. I was so impressed with this lotion I use it every day at work. Now it works great if you tack or do short periods of welding. Welding for long periods of time I would have to advise reapplying a couple times just to be safe or lay it on thick. Being summer and hot af it sucks having to wear a welding jacket for simple welding. I now can wear a sleeveless shirt and not have to worry about being burned by the arc. I am going to push this product to my work to offer it to all welders. I doesn’t have a very powerful scent and goes on like regular sun screen. I strongly recommend this product!
